IRGC Issues Maritime Warning as Tensions Rise in Strait of Hormuz
The message, reportedly shared by a crew member aboard a commercial vessel in the area, stated that all ships in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman were being addressed and that the Strait of Hormuz had been “completely closed.” It warned that any vessel movement through the strait would be met with a “decisive” response.
The recording further advised ships to “absolutely refrain” from entering or navigating the strait until further notice, citing safety concerns.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump said a peace agreement with Iran was expected to be signed on Sunday, adding that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen immediately afterward.
Separately, the US military reported that it had intercepted and destroyed several Iranian drones targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz late on Friday, underscoring rising tensions in the region’s critical maritime corridor.
