Lebanese President Signals Determination to Secure National Stability

(MENAFN) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Friday that he is prepared to “go anywhere” in pursuit of what he described as Lebanon’s “salvation,” as a newly implemented ceasefire comes into effect, according to reports.

In a televised address delivered on the first day of the ceasefire, Aoun framed the agreement as part of a broader effort to secure the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas considered occupied and to restore full authority of the Lebanese state across its territory.

He warned that the coming period could involve significant challenges, saying Lebanon is entering a sensitive phase that may face continued pressures and disruptions.

He stated:
“We are certain we will face many attacks in the coming phase, for a simple reason: we have reclaimed Lebanon and its decision-making for the first time in nearly half a century,”

Aoun also stressed that Lebanon is now acting independently in its decision-making process, rejecting past dynamics in which, as he put it, the country was influenced by external agendas. He emphasized that Lebanon should no longer be viewed as a battleground for other conflicts.

He added:
“We are no longer a card in anyone’s pocket, nor an arena for others’ wars, and we will never return to that,”

The president further pledged to take responsibility for the current national direction, including efforts aimed at territorial recovery, civilian protection, and broader national stability. He reiterated that the central objective remains the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the extension of state authority throughout Lebanon.

He also said he would seek to prevent further civilian casualties, stressing a commitment to avoid continued suffering or external exploitation of Lebanese lives.

Regarding talks with Israel, Aoun described engagement as a strategic choice rather than a concession, stating it reflects Lebanon’s assertion of its rights and responsibility to safeguard its population and national interests.

In parallel developments, US President Donald Trump said Washington is working to prevent Israel from conducting further military actions in Lebanon as the ceasefire begins to take hold, according to reports.
