Iran Seizes Two MSC Cargo Ships in Hormuz Over Alleged Israel Ties

(MENAFN) Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy detained two commercial cargo vessels in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, accusing them of unauthorized operations and alleged ties to Israel.

The IRGC identified the seized ships as the MSC-Francesca and the Epaminondas, both operating under the MSC shipping line, a semi-official news agency reported.

Tehran charged the vessels with violating maritime regulations, interfering with navigation systems, and endangering other ships in the strategically vital waterway. Iranian authorities alleged the ships had attempted to transit the strait undetected before being intercepted and escorted into Iranian territorial waters.

The seizures mark a further escalation in an already volatile corridor. Since the U.S. and Israel launched military operations against Iran on Feb. 28, Tehran has maintained a tight grip on the Strait of Hormuz — a chokepoint through which a significant share of the world's oil flows, particularly to Asia. A subsequent American naval blockade imposed on April 13 has compounded the disruption, delivering a heavy blow to global energy supplies.
