US Forces Order Multiple Vessels to Turn Back Amid Iran Port Blockade

(MENAFN) The US Central Command said Tuesday that American forces have ordered 28 vessels to reverse course or return to port since the beginning of a maritime blockade targeting traffic to and from Iranian ports.

The statement comes as Washington continues enforcing restrictions on shipping linked to Iran, a move that Tehran has described as a breach of a temporary ceasefire agreement.

Tensions have intensified in recent days following conflicting developments around the Strait of Hormuz. Iran had announced on Friday that the waterway was open to maritime traffic, but reversed that position a day later, reimposing limits on vessel movement. Iranian officials cited unmet obligations by the United States under a two-week ceasefire arrangement that is set to expire on Wednesday.

US President Donald Trump has accused Iran of repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement.

In parallel diplomatic efforts, US Vice President JD Vance is expected to travel to Pakistan alongside envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for renewed discussions. However, Iranian officials have not confirmed their participation and are reportedly insisting that any talks depend on the lifting of the blockade first.
