US Extends Congratulations to Vietnam’s New President, Prime Minister
In a statement, the US State Department emphasized the importance of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations, a relationship built over more than 30 years of growing cooperation, mutual respect, and shared interests.
The statement noted, "We appreciate Vietnam’s close cooperation in advancing economic prosperity, expanding people-to-people ties, and working together to promote peace and stability in a free and open Indo-Pacific."
It added that the US looks forward to collaborating closely with the new president and prime minister "to promote peace and prosperity for both our peoples and to continue to make our countries safer, stronger, and more prosperous."
Vietnamese National Assembly unanimously elected To Lam as president on Tuesday for a five-year term, marking his second term following a brief tenure in 2024. He will serve from 2026 to 2031 while continuing in his role as general secretary, according to reports.
