UAE, Uzbekistan Leaders Discuss Regional Developments Over Phone
UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed deep alarm over the rapidly worsening situation across the Middle East, according to a statement issued by the Uzbek presidency.
"It was emphasized that such events, occurring during the holy month of Ramadan, are contrary to international law. The need for an immediate cessation of any actions that pose a threat to peace and stability was stressed," the statement said.
Both leaders underscored that the spreading arc of regional conflict represents a serious and growing threat to international order.
Mirziyoyev used the call to express firm solidarity with the UAE — which Uzbekistan regards as a "strategic partner and close friend" — as the Emirates continues to grapple with the fallout of recent strikes on its territory.
"The president of our country also expressed gratitude for the practical assistance provided to Uzbek citizens currently in the Emirates and the measures taken to return them to their homeland," the statement added, noting that Al Nahyan reciprocated with thanks for Tashkent's show of support.
The exchange comes against a backdrop of sharply escalating hostilities. US and Israeli forces have conducted large-scale strikes on Iran since Saturday, killing more than 860 people — among them Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military commanders. Tehran has since retaliated with waves of drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting US military installations.
