China Expects Peak Travel on Last Day of Spring Festival Holiday

(MENAFN) China’s national railway operator has forecast that February 23, the final day of the nine-day Spring Festival holiday, will see the highest volume of returning passengers, with up to 18.5 million trips expected across the railway network, according to reports.

The China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. noted that Monday’s projected travel follows nearly 18.3 million journeys recorded on the previous day. To accommodate the surge in passengers, an additional 2,297 trains will be deployed.

Major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, are expected to experience significant inflows and outflows of travelers. Local railway departments have implemented measures to ensure smooth operations and minimize disruptions.

This year, the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, began on February 15 and officially fell on February 17, marking the nine-day holiday period.
