Zelensky pushes completion of US security assurance proposal

(MENAFN) Ukraine’s president announced that he has directed his negotiating team to complete a key document outlining security guarantees from the United States, with the intention of submitting it for top-level review, according to official statements.

As explained in a public message shared online, Zelenskyy said, “I instructed to finalize and submit for consideration at the highest level the document on the United States’ security guarantees for Ukraine. This must be a document of historic significance, and the text is now reaching that level.”

After receiving an extensive briefing from his advisers on recent exchanges with Washington, the president laid out a two-week roadmap that includes further talks, drafting work, and the possibility of formal agreements being signed.

He also said that senior officials, including the prime minister, were tasked with ensuring that future arrangements undergo thorough expert evaluation, particularly regarding economic components. This review process would also cover potential three-party agreements involving Ukraine, European partners, and the United States.

While emphasizing progress on the proposed security framework, Zelenskyy noted that the US side remains engaged in discussions with Russia on a broader political outline aimed at ending the conflict.

Clarifying Kyiv’s position, he stated, “We have defined our vision, and there must be clear feedback from Russia – whether they are willing to end the war on real terms.”

He further warned that if Moscow opts to continue fighting, the international community should respond by reducing Russia’s export income, with a focus on restricting shadow tanker fleets and disrupting financial mechanisms used to bypass sanctions.
