Kremlin Keeps Details of US Talks Under Wraps

(MENAFN) Senior Kremlin negotiator Kirill Dmitriev has updated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his recent diplomatic discussions with American officials. However, Moscow has opted not to reveal the particulars, consistent with its long-standing practice of confidentiality, according to presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

During the weekend, Dmitriev met in Miami with US special envoy Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and White House representative Josh Gruenbaum. Their talks centered on Washington’s attempts to broker a settlement to the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

Peskov declined to either confirm or deny reports suggesting Dmitriev had returned with four draft proposals for Putin’s review. He emphasized that “communicating through the mass media is inadvisable” if negotiations are to succeed, stressing that the US already understands the “main parameters of the Russian position.”

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky unveiled a 20-point peace plan earlier on Wednesday, claiming it had been discussed with American counterparts. The framework, however, overlooks several major Russian concerns, including Kiev’s assertion over territories that joined Russia in 2022 and its determination to sustain a standing force of 800,000 troops backed by NATO allies.
