UN calls for "safe, unhinged humanitarian access" in Sudan
“We once again call on all parties to urgently guarantee safe, unhinged humanitarian access to protect civilians, including, of course, aid workers," spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters.
According to UN representatives, humanitarian teams have recently visited displaced families who are in dire need of shelter, essential supplies, medical care, and sanitation support.
While food aid and psychosocial assistance are being provided, Dujarric cautioned that "funding shortfalls have left critical gaps," emphasizing the crucial role of donors in supplying additional resources.
The fighting between Sudan’s national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which erupted in April 2023, has already claimed thousands of lives, displaced around 12 million people, and created one of the most severe humanitarian emergencies globally.
