Erdogan harshly denounces massacres in Sudan's El-Fasher
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the recent massacres of civilians in Sudan’s El-Fasher on Monday, emphasizing that the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty must be upheld, according to reports.
“No one who carries a heart in their chest—not a stone—can accept massacres against civilians in Sudan's El-Fasher in recent days. We cannot remain silent about this,” Erdogan said during the opening of the 41st session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul. He stressed the importance of supporting the Sudanese people while protecting the nation’s independence and sovereignty.
Addressing the conflict in Gaza, Erdogan noted that Hamas appears willing to adhere to the ceasefire, while Israel has violated the agreement. Israel has killed over 200 innocent people since the ceasefire deal and continues its occupation and attacks in the West Bank, he said.
“At the point we have reached, we must increase our humanitarian aid to the Gazan people and then launch the reconstruction works. The Israeli government is doing everything in its power to prevent this as well,” Erdogan added. He called for immediate implementation of the reconstruction plan proposed by the Arab League and OIC, highlighting the need for the OIC and COMCEC to take a leading role in Gaza’s recovery. He also stressed that the West Bank should not be annexed, the status of Al-Quds must remain unchanged, and the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque must be preserved.
Erdogan also welcomed attendees from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), describing Turkish Cypriots as an inseparable part of the Islamic world. He noted that, despite decades of “unfair, unlawful and ruthless isolation” due to their identity, Turkish Cypriots have continued to resist external pressures.
