Japan's LDP Secretary-General Announces Resignation
According to Mainichi newspaper, Moriyama is expected to formally submit his resignation to Prime Minister and LDP President Shigeru Ishiba.
The decision is regarded as a severe blow to the party’s leadership, with many within the LDP expressing concern that it could hinder the government's operational capacity and escalate pressure on Ishiba to reconsider his own political future.
On Tuesday, Ishiba stated that he would determine the right moment to make a decision regarding his possible resignation.
Speaking at the LDP's joint general assembly, Ishiba clarified his stance: "My duty is not to evade responsibility, but to make the proper decision at the proper time."
Ishiba also underscored key priorities moving forward, including boosting wages above inflation, negotiating tariffs, enhancing the economy, and reforming agricultural policies, such as revising rice support measures, as reported by media.
