Xi, Putin Forge 'Unprecedented' Strategic Partnership
(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on Tuesday to further cement their "comprehensive strategic partnership," emphasizing an unparalleled level of political trust and cooperation, according to the Kremlin.
During a meeting at the Great Hall of the People, Xi called Putin a long-time friend and emphasized that Sino-Russian relations had endured through various international challenges, now serving as a model for interstate relations. He also highlighted the mutual commitment of both nations to uphold the outcomes of World War II and work together towards a more just and rational global governance system.
Putin echoed this sentiment, calling Russian-Chinese relations at an “unprecedentedly high level” and tracing their foundation to the wartime camaraderie and mutual support that still informs their alliance today.
“We were together then, we remain together now,” Putin remarked, expressing his gratitude to Xi for the invitation and his optimism about the discussions’ outcome.
According to the Kremlin, the talks focused on deepening strategic cooperation, expanding practical ties, and enhancing coordination on multilateral platforms. The leaders also aimed to address key regional and global issues, including the ongoing war in Ukraine and last month's summit between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska.
Putin’s visit follows his participation in the 25th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tianjin, China. The Russian leader, along with North Korean President Kim Jong Un, is also set to join state leaders from 26 nations at a military parade in Beijing on Wednesday.
