Minivan Disrupts Native American Festival in Harrisburg
(MENAFN) A minivan unexpectedly entered restricted areas during a Native American cultural event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Monday, leaving three individuals hurt — among them a child and a woman using a wheelchair.
According to a news agency, city representative Michelle Moyer confirmed that those injured were transported to a medical facility, though their conditions remain unknown.
The incident unfolded during the closing day of the Kipona Festival — a three-day annual event commemorating the local Native American legacy.
Moyer explained in an official statement that, "A woman went around and through barriers blocking traffic" that had been installed to protect the festival’s footprint.
She further noted, "She hit a woman in a wheelchair and a child. One of our public works employees was also injured trying to stop the woman."
As detailed by the news agency’s local affiliate in Harrisburg, the van continued driving for roughly six blocks before halting.
Moyer also mentioned that the suspect had been apprehended.
The incident occurred on Front Street, which had been lined with food trucks, merchant stalls, and carnival-style games, as illustrated on the official event layout.
At this time, authorities have not provided a clear explanation as to why the driver entered the closed-off area.
